Just a few things going on…

I really do like the idea of writing in my blog, but this season of life is busy, busy busy. How about a quick round up in case I don’t write again for another 6 weeks.

Jacob had a wellness check up this week. Measures 3’11″ and 50 lbs. Very healthy and “normal” for his age. Playing soccer which he enjoys. He shows good instincts out there. He is in 4-6 age group with most kids on his team 5 and 6. Makes a HUGE difference from the last 2 seasons with 3s and 4s. It actually resembles soccer.

A funny, maybe not ha-ha, laugh out-loud funny but amusing, cute funny, is that Jacob’s has discovered the old He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoons I use to watch as kid through Hulu. So he will ask me, “Daddy, can we watch He-man” and I am happy to oblige. I do have to admit that looking back at these cartoons 25 years later puts them in a different light. They are really not that good. The super-hero cartoons of today are just better in terms of plot and dialogue, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for He-Man.

Ava is now on allergry medicine after her 2nd ear infection. It was due to having so much mucus drainage that we thought allergy medicine would help, especially since Jacob and I take it regularly. She has been on it for 1/2 week. Hope it helps.

Good news on the potty front. Ava has peed in the potty 3 days this past week. Either after her nap or after waking up from the night, she was dry, and I then put her on the toilet and she did the rest. Definitely not ready for underwear, but good steps.

This week we are heading to Panama City for a vacation. Our family loves the beach, and I looking forward to getting away.

Both my work and Shannon’s at the church is very busy. Busy is good, but busy is busy. Thus, limited time and energy to write on the blog. Maybe the vacation will help give me a boost.

Our Piano

Shannon inherited a small grand piano from her parents. It was the same piano that she practiced on as a child as she learned how to play piano. Since her parent’s death, my parents have been gracious enough to keep the piano as we did not have room for it in our Springfield home.

Our new home in Orange Beach has the layout which allows us to have a piano. Today Modern Piano Moving company delivered our piano. I took pictures of the sequence of the movers taking the piano out from the truck and then into our home. It was quite impressive to watch just two men move a 800 lbs. grand piano. Also some real cute photos of Shannon and Ava at the piano.

Super Jacob Snow Angel and BowGirl

Last week, we had “Super Hero” night in our Wednesday AWANA program at church. When we asked Jacob whom he wanted to be, he said “Super Jacob Snow Angel”, who goes out in the cold and rescues people from the cold and brings them inside and sits them by a warm fire. It is quite impressive as he thought of this totally on his own, back story and all, without any suggestion from us.

Shannon made him his costume, and she went as BowGirl, capable of making a perfect bow in one twist. The pictures display the creativity of them both.

My Wife is on Facebook

My wife has succumbed to peer pressure and popular culture at-large and is now on the social networking site Facebook. Not surprisingly given her personality, she already has 41 “friends” (people in her network) in just over 24 hours even though she has only sent out invitations to 3 people. To her surprise, she is enjoying it. If you use Facebook, send her an invitation. I have no interest in opening a Facebook account and personally prefer to stay here on my only website. Better to be the king of your own tiny island than a faceless peasant on a large continent. At least, that is what I tell myself.

The Little Things

Last night Shannon and I had our first neighbor co-op date night. Our neighbors, Joe and Megan Tucker, and us have entered a babysitting co-op. They watch our kids one night and they we watch their son Jackson, who is 2 1/2 in return. We don’t pay each other so we save in babysitting costs. The Tuckers started it off and watched Ava and Jacob last night.

Shannon and I had nothing special planned for the evening. We talked about a few ideas but settled on the very practical purpose of going to a few stores and exchanging some recently purchased outfits of the kids. Yet, it turned out to be a great outing. Through out the night, from the moment we pulled out of the driveway until we got home, we had great conversation. A very good flow to it, with everything moving very naturally from topic to topic. We discussed some very meaningful issues without forcing them. And we laughed. In fact, Shannon laughed more than I have heard from her in a while.

It was just a delightful surprise of an evening. My love for my wife was strengthen, and we were both refreshed. There is much truth to the sentiment of joy being found in the small things, and we found joy in many small things last night.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

Last week Shannon had a biopsy done on a festering spot on her back. The results came back that it was basal cell carcinoma. It is a skin cancer, but one that is very treatable and typically does not spread. It is much better than finding melanoma, but it is something we need to go to the dermatologist in order to get the fully removed. Our family doctor is setting up the appointment, but it should be sometime this month.
